A question we often get is what to do after you’ve been in a car accident. If you’ve never been in one, the process might be confusing.
The first thing you should do is make sure you are okay and safe. Call 911, especially if you are injured, so that police and an ambulance can respond to help. You should report it to the police as police reports are often helpful to have for an accident claim. While the police might not always come out, you want there to be a police report if you can.
Always make sure it is safe before you get out of the car. If you have a phone or camera, take pictures of the vehicular damage, the intersection, and the scene. You then want to get the names and identities of the other drivers and any witnesses, insurance information, and license plate numbers before reporting it to your insurance company. Having a phone with a camera makes it easier to document all that information.
